THE FOUNDER OF IYENGAR YOGA

B.K.S. IYENGAR

Iyengar Yoga emerged from the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar. Throughout his extensive travels, demonstrations, seminars, and books such as “Light on Yoga”, Mr. Iyengar brought Yoga to the West. Iyengar Yoga is now practiced all around the world by thousands of people.

ABOUT THE IYENGAR METHOD

IYENGAR YOGA

USE OF PROPS (BLANKETS, BRICKS, ROPE, WALL BELTS)

Mr. Iyengar developed and invented many props to help his students understand the asanas. Iyengar Yoga teachers skilfully use props to adjust each student to his individual needs in each Yoga posture.

Props help to hold the poses for a longer time and deepen the experience of the asana. They improve alignment thereby intensifying the effects of the asana. Also, they make postures that would be inaccessible to most, accessible, enjoyable, and safe.

THE SEQUENCE OF PRACTICE AND TIMINGS

There are levels of classes and orders in which postures are thought so that all can progress safely. Each class is prepared and has a sequence of asanas that targets a specific goal. Poses are held for a certain amount of time so that the practitioner can observe himself as well as receive the full benefits of the asana.

ALIGNMENT

In an Iyengar Yoga class, emphasis is given to the correct alignment of the body in the asana. This creates awareness, sensibility, and precision.

ABOUT ME

MY YOGA JOURNEY

Adrian started practicing Yoga in 2009 when he was 18 years old. After years of practice, study, and a rigorous evaluation he was certified as the first Iyengar Yoga teacher of Baja California Sur. Adrian continues to study with Senior Iyengar teachers from all over the world. He is a founder of the studio Niralamba Yoga and Therapy where he gives workshops and regular Iyengar Yoga classes.
